There’s nothing that compares to having a great steak for dinner. Juicy, tender, and oozing with flavor, a steak is absolutely a thing of beauty. If you want to impress someone with a lavish meal or just want to indulge, follow these tricks.

Visit a Butcher Shop

You can find a great variety of steaks in grocery stores. But since grocery stores carry many kinds of food, your options will be somewhat restricted.

With butcher shops, you will be presented with a wider variety of cuts. These shops can also tell you important information such as where the steak came from or when it was cut.

Choose Thick Steaks

Want to achieve a bullseye red center just like what you see in cookbooks? The trick is to look for a steak that is at least an inch thick. Cuts of meat which measure 1.5 to 2 inches also work great.  A thicker cut would be ideal if you are serving many people.

Go with Ribeye

If you do not know much around steak, you can never go wrong with ribeye. This is the best option for home grilling thanks to its glorious marbling. The marbling, or the white flecks you see in the meat, drastically enhances the steak’s flavor and juiciness.

Also, opt for meat that is naturally aged and raised without drugs, antibiotics, or steroids. This will result in a richer meat flavor. Grass-fed meat also has higher omega-3 content.

Let Steak Rest

You cannot immediately serve a steak right after you cook it. It is recommended to let the steak cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. This improves the taste and makes it juicier.   When you slice freshly-cooked steak, its juices get wasted on the cutting board.

Use a Heated Plate

Your goal should be to serve a perfect medium-rare steak with a warm center. Using a heated plate would prevent your steak’s red center from turning cold.

Use High Heat

There are countless ways to cook a steak; gas grills, charcoal grills, broilers, wood oven, and cast iron skillets. No matter which method you choose, make sure it is really hot. High-end steak houses have special cookers that go up to 800 degrees. Since you cannot do that in your home, just try to get the highest heat possible before cooking it.

Season Well

When cooking a steak, go all out on the seasoning. Two of the most important seasonings you can add to steak are salt and black pepper, we also like the Dizzy Pig spices for a really unique taste, let us know what you think! Make sure to give the steak ample time to absorb all the flavors.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can add paprika, garlic powder, cumin, or sumac. You can even experiment with cinnamon.

Use a Thermometer

Although you are cooking at home, a meat thermometer is a good investment. This is important especially if you have not mastered the finger test to see if your steak is rare, medium-rare, or medium.  A meat thermometer will ensure you are cooking your steak at the same temperature every time.
